Synesthesia Network.
The first social network built for synesthetes.

Connecting people who experience the world differently.
Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon where stimulation of one sense triggers automatic experiences in another—tasting words, seeing music, feeling colors. With over 80 documented types affecting roughly 4% of the population, synesthetes have long lacked a dedicated space to connect. The Synesthesia Network is a social platform that brings this community together while also enabling researchers to recruit participants for neuroscience studies.

The Synesthesia Network is built to serve two audiences: synesthetes looking for community, and researchers needing precision participant recruitment. Members create profiles tagged with their specific synesthesia types, enabling geographic and interest-based discovery of others with matching experiences.
For research institutions, the platform provides filtering by specific synesthesia types, subtypes such as projector or associator, demographics, and location. Members opt into research participation on their own terms, giving labs access to what is now the largest self-reported synesthesia dataset.
The platform catalogs over 80 documented synesthesia types, from well-known forms like grapheme-color and chromesthesia to rarer varieties like lexical-gustatory and mirror-touch synesthesia.
Designing for sensory experience.
The visual design mirrors the multisensory nature of synesthesia itself. A dark theme with gradient accents in pink, cyan, violet, and gold evokes the cross-sensory experiences that define the condition. Animated background gradients and glassmorphism effects on cards create a sense of depth and movement throughout the interface.
Typography choices pair serif headings with clean body text to balance elegance with readability. The responsive layout ensures the experience translates well across devices, from desktop to mobile.
Bridging community and neuroscience.
Synesthesia research has implications far beyond understanding cross-sensory perception. Studies suggest that the enhanced brain connectivity found in synesthetes may offer insights into neurodegenerative disease prevention and consciousness research. The platform makes it easier for labs studying chromesthesia, mirror-touch, and other forms to find qualified, willing participants.
By combining community building with research infrastructure, The Synesthesia Network creates a feedback loop: members gain access to a community of people who share their experiences, while researchers gain access to a diverse, self-selected pool of participants—accelerating the science of perception.
